Why you should learn to drive IN LONDON?

Why you should learn to drive in south London
Reason why you should take driving lessons
Even if you live in central London and have a wealth of public transport at your disposal, learning to drive could help you save money and could prove to be a crucial life skill.
So what if;
  • That dream job came up that included a company car and that meant you travelling to inaccessible places, devoid of public transport.
  • You decide to start a family and move to somewhere more rural, how would you get to work or even go to the shops then.
  • You want to transport large items that could be to heavy to carry on public transport.
  • These days you can hire vehicles at relatively low prices for when you want to move home or just a bit of furniture or you have a large shop to carry out for a party.
  • A relative or Loved one became sick and you had to drive them to hospital, maybe they already have a car and become sick or ill whilst you are out and are unable to drive.
  • On your bucket list there's the dream to travel to places like America where car travel is essential and perhaps you want to drive the famous Route 66.

Driving a car opens up a whole world of possibilities and just having the freedom to jump in the car and not having to worry about how much you can carry is so enlightening. You can visit anywhere, go anywhere and you do not feel as though you have to rely on a friend, loved one or relative.

So even if it is not your intention to drive straight away of you do not have a car start learning to drive straight away. I waited til I was in my early 30s and as soon as I passed my driving test I wondered what all the fuss was about and why I had been putting this off for years and years. I'm so happy to be driving now but I do so regret not doing it sooner.

So if you want driving lessons in south London and want to pass your driving test come and take some lessons with us

Pros of Learning to Drive in London

Here are some key pros and cons of learning to drive in London:

Pros of Learning to Drive in south London:
  1. Gain experience in challenging driving conditions
London's busy roads, complex junctions, heavy traffic, and diverse road layouts expose learners to a wide range of driving scenarios. This helps develop crucial skills like hazard perception, defensive driving, and confidence in difficult situations that may not be encountered as frequently in other cities.
  2. Transferable driving skills for anywhere in the world
The experience of learning to drive amidst London's varied road environments and obstacles equips drivers with skills that are transferable and applicable when driving in other cities or countries. As stated in , "If you learn to drive in London...you will be able to drive anywhere in the world."
  3. Increased independence and mobility
Having a driving license in London opens up greater independence, flexibility and access to opportunities that may be difficult to reach solely via public transport. It allows exploring different areas of the city and beyond more conveniently.
  4. Time and cost savings
While upfront costs for driving lessons exist, learning to drive in London can eliminate reliance on often expensive and unreliable public transport in the long run, saving money and increasing productivity by avoiding delays.
  5. Career opportunities
A driving license expands potential job prospects in London and surrounding areas that may have been inaccessible previously due to limitations of public transport networks.
  6. Comprehensive learning experience
London's diverse road conditions from busy city streets to rural roads provide a comprehensive learning experience that covers virtually every possible driving scenario in a relatively compact area.

Cons of Learning to Drive in London:
  1. High costs of lessons and car ownership - Driving lessons in London can be expensive, and maintaining a car with insurance, taxes, and parking fees adds significant ongoing costs in the city.
  2. Difficulty finding affordable parking - Parking spaces are limited and costly in many parts of London, making car ownership less convenient.
  3. Excellent public transport network - London's extensive bus, tube, and rail links make it possible to get around without needing a car for many residents.
  4. Traffic congestion and delays - London's roads can be heavily congested, especially during peak hours, leading to delays and increased stress while driving.
  5. Environmental impact - Driving contributes to air pollution, traffic noise, and carbon emissions, which are already concerns in the densely populated city.

In summary, while Learning to Drive in south London provides valuable experience and convenience, the high costs, parking difficulties, and excellent public transport options are factors to consider against the potential benefits of owning a car in the city. But this should certainly not put you off from learning to drive and becoming a driving licence holder offers lots of other benefits inside and outside of London.
