LAst Minute, Short Notice, Quick, Fast Driving Tests in London

23/3/2013

Quick access to last minute driving tests
Here are the details about the short notice, last minute driving tests, test cancellations, and mock driving tests offered by Driving Schools in South West London and Driving Schools in South London:

Short Notice and Last Minute Driving Tests:
- The driving schools offer a service to book short notice and last minute driving tests in London, often with just 1-2 weeks' notice before the test date.
- They constantly monitor the DVSA (Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency) system for any cancelled test appointments across various London test centres.
- When a cancellation comes up at short notice, they can book you into that slot for a last minute driving test, sometimes with only 1-5 days' notice.

Driving Test Cancellations:
- If you recently failed your driving test by only a few minor faults, they can rebook you for a new London test within 10 days through their short notice cancellation service.
- They provide the driving test car (manual or automatic) fitted with dual controls, as the DVSA does not supply the car for tests.
- For extremely short notice tests within 2-3 days, they can also arrange an emergency driving instructor familiar with the test centre to accompany you.

Mock Driving Tests:
- The driving schools emphasize the importance of taking and passing mock driving tests with their instructors to help assess if you've reached the standard required to pass the actual test.
- Their experienced instructors conduct these mock tests, providing valuable feedback and identifying areas for improvement before your scheduled driving test.
- Passing mock tests is seen as a good indicator that you are prepared to take and pass your official driving test with confidence.

Here at DSSL we specialise in finding short notice driving test cancellations across London test centres and facilitating last minute bookings, often within just a few days. We provide the driving test car, driving instructor (if needed), and also conduct mock driving tests to ensure students are truly driving test-ready before their scheduled driving test examination.

Driving Test Pass Rates in SOuth London

Here are some key details about driving test pass rates at driving test centres in South London:

Best Driving Test Pass Rates in South London:
- Sidcup has the highest pass rate in London at 55% [3][4]
- Bromley has the second highest pass rate in London at 53.4% [3][4]

Other High Pass Rate Centres:
- Borehamwood - 51.7% pass rate [3][4]
- Tolworth - 51% pass rate [3]
- Hither Green - 50.4% pass rate [3]

Lowest Driving Test Pass Rates in South London:
- Erith has the lowest pass rate in London at just 32.2% [4]
- Belvedere has the 4th lowest pass rate in London at 36% [4][5]

The search results from Cargiant and MyLondon provide detailed rankings of the best and worst driving test centres in London based on pass rates from April 2022 to March 2023 data.

Sidcup, Bromley, Borehamwood and Tolworth emerge as some of the test centres with the highest pass rates in the South London region, while Erith and Belvedere have among the lowest pass rates not just in South London but across all of London.

The average practical test pass rate across the UK was around 48% during this period according to, so centres like Sidcup, Bromley and Borehamwood performed better than the national average.

However, extremely low pass rates under 40% at centres like Erith and Belvedere indicate these areas of South London present particular challenges for learner drivers taking their tests there.

UPDATE JANUARY 2022

The Highway Code was updated on January 29, 2022 with new rules to improve road safety for pedestrians, cyclists, and horse riders who are more vulnerable.

The most significant changes include introducing a hierarchy of road users where those posing greater risk have more responsibility, clarifying that traffic should give way to pedestrians crossing at junctions, providing guidance for cyclists to ride prominently for visibility, and recommending the "Dutch Reach" technique for drivers to avoid injuring cyclists and pedestrians when opening vehicle doors.

While non-compliance does not result in fines, the updates aim to enhance awareness and consideration for vulnerable road users across England, Scotland, and Wales.

Are You Truly Ready to Pass Your Driving Test?

The Importance of Being Fully Prepared
Passing your driving test is a significant milestone, granting you independence and freedom on the roads. However, many learner drivers make the mistake of taking their test before they are genuinely ready. This often leads to failed attempts, disappointment, additional costs, and delays in obtaining their license.

To avoid these setbacks, it's crucial to assess your readiness objectively and take the test only when you have developed the necessary skills and confidence.

Signs You're Ready for the Driving Test

You'll typically be prepared to take your driving test when you can seriously fulfil the following test requirements:

1. You CAN Drive Without Prompts: You can operate the vehicle smoothly without needing constant reminders or instructions from your driving instructor.

2. No DON'T Serious Mistakes: You consistently demonstrate safe driving practices and do not make dangerous or severe errors that could compromise your safety or that of others on the road.

3. You've Passed a Mock Driving Test: You can successfully complete mock driving tests with an unfamiliar driving instructor in driving test style conditions and can demonstrate your ability to handle various scenarios, hazards and all the required maneuvers.

4. You can Manage Nerves: You have developed effective strategies to manage your nerves and maintain focus during the driving test, ensuring that anxiety does not impair your overall driving performance.

5. You Have Your Instructor's Approval: Your driving instructor, with their professional experience, agrees that you have reached the required level of competence and are ready to take the official driving test. By you not passing your driving test badly reflects on the instructor and driving school so they really want you to pass.

Postponing Your Driving Test for Better Preparation
If you or your instructor have doubts about your readiness, it's advisable to postpone your driving test appointment. Rescheduling your driving test allows you more time to:
  1. Reinforce your driving skills through additional practice sessions,
  2. Take more mock driving tests to build your confidence,
  3. Work on managing driving test-day nerves effectively.

Changing your appointment is free as long as you do so at least three full working days (Monday to Saturday) before your scheduled test date. By postponing until you're truly prepared, you not only increase your chances of passing but also frees up an appointment for someone who is ready.
